Essies South American Sauce began in 1968 by Nancy Davis Langford's parents, Barry and Esther Davis, in a small basement restaurant, called the 7 Seas, in Mandan,North Dakota. Essies has now grown into a largely distributed product over the past several years. Esther, Nancy's mother, began bottling the sauce in 1986 and distributing through a very small distributor. Nancy has worked for Esther as her sole employee during that time, so when Esther decided it was time to retire, Nancy took the business over in 2007. The product is still made in North Dakota, but Nancy lives in Nashville, TN, where Essies office is currently located.
Since 2007, we have been adding more flavors, hired a brokerage firm, and have begun to distribute to a wider range of distributors. We are a small family start up company and intend on growing and keeping the company within the family.
Essie's currently has two flavors, Original and Chipotle, with a third coming soon in the form of a citrus marinade. Hope you enjoy our product and join us on sharing recipes and ways that you like to use the sauce!
